In the 10th minute, Vassilis Tzikas made a precise shot to the right of Sotiris Michalolias. Olympiacos FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. After having played for 16 minutes, Vlassis Venieris managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Olympiacos FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Vlassis Venieris was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 19th minute, Louis Antzas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The supporters of Athνna booed when Olympiacos FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Stavros Efthimidis didn't get a good kick on the ball. 26 minutes into the game, Vaios Strevlos was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Stavros Efthimidis was shown his second yellow card after 44 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. In the 45th minute the ball was on its way in behind Olympiacos FC's goalkeeper Sotiris Michalolias, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Babbis Piomenos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vlassis Venieris, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Tolis Gavrilidis to strike the kick off in the second half. Vassilis Tzikas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sotiris Michalolias having to interfere. Through an outstanding action, after 55 minutes, Babbis Piomenos successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Tolis Gavrilidis came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Olympiacos FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tolis Gavrilidis couldn't finish the play. Olympiacos FC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
