Fondas Lazarakis took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Charilaos Kritikopoulos, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 23rd minute Achilleas Nikolaou shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fondas Lazarakis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Milan's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Achilleas Nikolaou was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-3.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Thomas Valkanas made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Akakios Koubilias in the 51st minute of play forced Panathinaikos's goalkeeper Dionysis Boulas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 57 minutes, Christos Kolonelos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Panathinaikos's supporters crossed their fingers, but Christos Kolonelos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Akakios Koubilias might have been able to make a better finish in the 88th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Dionysis Boulas. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Akakios Koubilias ran back to his position shaking his head. Anestis Malamas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dionysis Boulas having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Charilaos Kritikopoulos got free with Fondas Lazarakis in the 93rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Thomas Valkanas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Milan's Michalis Valassoulis got a free kick in the 96th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Thomas Valkanas in the 97th minute of play forced Milan's goalkeeper Fondas Lazarakis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
