Apollon Apollonias's supporters crossed their fingers, but Stathis Markonis was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Periklis Valianatos fell near the penalty area in the 76th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Apollon Apollonias's protests and gave Periklis Valianatos a yellow card for diving instead. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Chelsea had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
