With a couple of smart ball manuevers Aggelos Tsibos in the 3rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Argyris Drakos saved Ios from getting behind. Paris Tzanetakis might have been able to make a better finish in the 6th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Aggelos Fanakoglou. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Paris Tzanetakis ran back to his position shaking his head. Aggelos Fanakoglou took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lakis Liapakis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Argyris Drakos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Argyris Koulakidis in the 14th minute of play. The supporters of Aston Villa booed when Ios was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vassilis Kozirakis didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Stelios Chatzoudis fell near the penalty area in the 16th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ios's protests and gave Stelios Chatzoudis a yellow card for diving instead. In the 17th match minute, Ios was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Stelios Chatzoudis to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paris Tzanetakis in the 24th minute of play forced Aston Villa's goalkeeper Aggelos Fanakoglou to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 24th minute, Paris Tzanetakis ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Aggelos Fanakoglou was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. Themos Sferas helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Aston Villa's Themos Sferas got a free kick in the 42nd minute. During the 43rd minute of the match Stelios Chatzoudis completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Stelios Chatzoudis a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. 47 minutes into the match, Ios's goal looked a bit too open when Argyris Koulakidis came free, but Argyris Drakos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

Ios's Stefanos Savouridis was substituted for Themos Michopoulos. The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Argyris Koulakidis to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute, Efthimis Papastavrou hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Aggelos Tsibos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Argyris Drakos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 80 minutes of play Aston Villa's Themos Sferas was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Themos Sferas kicked well hit freekick during the 80th minute of the match. Grigoris Efthimis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 81st minute. Aggelos Fanakoglou tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 95th match minute, Ios was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Paris Tzanetakis to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Ios's zone, Anastasios Chatziiakovou stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Argyris Drakos came out of the goal and Anastasios Chatziiakovou tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Aston Villa's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
