In the 13th minute, Dimos Pentasferos ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Christos Chatzidakis was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. If Vaggelis Lemonis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 19 minutes, Emmanouil Kounadopoulos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Απόλλων Λάρισας's supporters crossed their fingers, but Emmanouil Kounadopoulos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 21 minutes into the game, Απόλλων Λάρισας's Vaggelis Lemonis nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-6 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Vaggelis Lemonis to make the kick off. 56 minutes into the game, Vaggelis Lemonis cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-7. Dimos Pentasferos who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 60thth minute tested the skills of Christos Chatzidakis when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Makis Martinakos hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 61st minute, Vaggelis Lemonis managed to get in a good position for a shot. Απόλλων Λάρισας's supporters rose to their feet, but Vaggelis Lemonis was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Christos Chatzidakis breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When the match had gone on for 66 minutes, Vaggelis Lemonis put it in 0-8 from a short distance just to the right of Christos Chatzidakis. If Vaggelis Lemonis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dimos Pentasferos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Christos Chatzidakis was out of position in the 77 minute of play, and Vaggelis Lemonis capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Nea Smirni's Christos Chatzidakis played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vaggelis Lemonis in the 85th minute of play. In the 87th minute Vaggelis Lemonis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Christos Chatzidakis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Makis Martinakos fell near the penalty area in the 90th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Nea Smirni's protests and gave Makis Martinakos a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Απόλλων Λάρισας booed when Nea Smirni was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Makis Martinakos didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a little luck, Nea Smirni's Christos Chatzidakis got control of the ball when Vaggelis Lemonis tried to sneak it across the goal line. Miltos Ziogas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 95th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Απόλλων Λάρισας's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
