The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by Oskari Tikkanen in the 5th minute of play forced KESKUSTAN HK's goalkeeper Timo Kaukomaa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Ensio Salermo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 7th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 8th minute, Jyrki Savijoki hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 14th minute, Oskari Tikkanen managed to get in a good position for a shot. Eiskola's supporters rose to their feet, but Oskari Tikkanen was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Timo Kaukomaa breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 16 minutes into the match, Eiskola's goal looked a bit too open when Seppo Tallqvist came free, but Leif Selänne reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Leif Selänne showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Seppo Tallqvist in the 21st minute of the match. Leif Selänne made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Seppo Tallqvist in the 23rd minute of play. In the 24th match minute, Eiskola was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ensio Salermo to maneuver through the defense. Eiskola's Leif Selänne played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Seppo Tallqvist in the 29th minute of play. KESKUSTAN HK's Timo Kaukomaa proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 30th minute of the match, managed to save KESKUSTAN HK from getting a goal against them. Oskari Tikkanen did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-0 to the left of a surprised Timo Kaukomaa 33 minutes into the match. Timo Kaukomaa made a fantastic save in the 37th minute, when Klaus Toivanen sent off a good shot on target. Klaus Toivanen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 42 minutes into the match, KESKUSTAN HK's goal looked a bit too open when Oskari Tikkanen came free, but Timo Kaukomaa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 2-0 became the score in the 44th minute when Oskari Tikkanen elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

When Yrjö Virolainen fell near the penalty area in the 52nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored KESKUSTAN HK's protests and gave Yrjö Virolainen a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, KESKUSTAN HK's Yrjö Virolainen got a free kick in the 52nd minute. Klaus Toivanen might have been able to make a better finish in the 56th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Timo Kaukomaa. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Yrjö Virolainen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Leif Selänne tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Klaus Toivanen recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 76th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Klaus Toivanen took the ball and in the 78 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Timo Kaukomaa. Timo Kaukomaa dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-1. After having played for 83 minutes, Seppo Tallqvist managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. KESKUSTAN HK's supporters crossed their fingers, but Seppo Tallqvist was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 85th minute Seppo Tallqvist shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leif Selänne saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
