In the 4th minute Nacho Barbutski shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcus Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nacho Barbutski took the ball and in the 4 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Marcus Taffarel. Marcus Taffarel dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. The audience was convinced that Nacho Barbutski's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Marcus Taffarel was relentless in the 7th minute of the game. The audience thought a goal was coming when Zaaki Zakas got free with Vladimir Tomanov in the 12th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. CSKA's Marcus Taffarel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nacho Barbutski in the 15th minute of play. When Vergil Tzolov fell near the penalty area in the 17th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored CSKA's protests and gave Vergil Tzolov a yellow card for diving instead. In the 17th match minute, CSKA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vergil Tzolov to maneuver through the defense. Hristofor Dundov struck a weak shot in the 21st minute. Vladimir Tomanov didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for CSKA. Loko Plovdiv's supporters crossed their fingers, but Genadi Ahmakov was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 37thth minute of the game Nacho Barbutski who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but CSKA's Marcus Taffarel was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 41st minute, Genadi Ahmakov hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 46 minutes, Tzoko Shotorov made it 1-1 with a short kick to the right side. Loko Plovdiv's Vladimir Tomanov tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Hristofor Dundov to make the kick off. CSKA's Zaaki Zakas got a good chance for a goal in the 51st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Loko Plovdiv made a substitution. Dencho Yashev replaced Genadi Ahmakov. After 56 played minutes Loko Plovdiv got a freekick which was hit by Genadi Ahmakov. In the 66th minute, Ilcho Argirov hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Nacho Barbutski's late challenge caught a CSKA's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nacho Barbutski helped the player get up and apologised. In the 68th minute, Nacho Barbutski hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Vladimir Tomanov made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hristofor Dundov in the 76th minute of play. Nacho Barbutski received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Marcus Taffarel came out and tried to block the shot, but Nacho Barbutski slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 84th minute.
