In the 34thth minute of the game Billy Eastwood who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but West Rainton's Rod Fleming was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Billy Eastwood fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rod Fleming having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Billy Eastwood in the 41st minute of play forced West Rainton's goalkeeper Rod Fleming to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After the first half West Rainton were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Garth Lawton was the one to do the kick off. Billy Eastwood might have been able to make a better finish in the 52nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rod Fleming. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Billy Eastwood ran back to his position shaking his head. Spike Corby struck a weak shot in the 56th minute. Rod Fleming didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Bedlington. 57 minutes into the game, Ross Hay was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Bedlington's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave West Rainton the free kick. Billy Eastwood sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 64 minutes into the match, Bedlington's Spike Corby sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Rod Fleming narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Jerry Bradfield sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 84 minutes of play, Bedlington's Billy Eastwood made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net.
