Danny Appleton scored 0-1 in the 13th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Martin Ambrose, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 16 minutes into the game, Arsenal Football Club's Dave Robinson nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Greg Hayes made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. When Tyrone Pallister fell near the penalty area in the 25th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. Arsenal Football Club's Vincent Greenman couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 26th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Morpeth. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jon Barraclough made a kick off. In the 55th minute Dave Robinson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Greg Hayes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With his leg Martin Ambrose managed to avoid a goal in the 99thth minute, when Morpeth's Danny Appleton fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Morpeth's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
