Hucknall's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Alf Froggatt was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. 12 minutes into the match, Arsenal Football Club's goalkeeper Martin Ambrose had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Bryan Bourton. After a defensive mix-up in Arsenal Football Club's zone, Bryan Bourton stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Martin Ambrose came out of the goal and Bryan Bourton tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 19 played minutes Arsenal Football Club got a freekick which was hit by Francis Pollock. Alf Froggatt recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 22nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Dave Robinson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 34 minutes into the match, Hucknall's goal looked a bit too open when Alf Froggatt came free, but Jermaine Crowther reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Martin Ambrose was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Ken Sullivan showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-1 in the 37 minute of play. The supporters of Arsenal Football Club booed when Hucknall was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cliff Mortlock didn't get a good kick on the ball. 43 minutes into the game, Dave Robinson cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Jermaine Crowther was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Alf Froggatt made the kick off in the second half. If Bryan Bourton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. After having played for 59 minutes, Dave Robinson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Arsenal Football Club's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dave Robinson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Bryan Bourton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dave Robinson did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-3 to the left of a surprised Jermaine Crowther 69 minutes into the match. Jermaine Crowther made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alf Froggatt in the 73rd minute of play. Gordon Forrest hit a great freekick 76 minutes into the match. Jermaine Crowther took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alf Froggatt, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 88th minute, Callum Couzens managed to get in a good position for a shot. Arsenal Football Club's supporters rose to their feet, but Callum Couzens was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jermaine Crowther breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The Hucknall supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Arsenal Football Club's performance. The match ended with a win for Arsenal Football Club.
