The supporters of Walmley AFC booed when Morden was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Charlie Pointon didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 13th minute, John Pollard reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Jimmy Lydiate. The goal made the score 1-0. Jimmy Lydiate showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wally Ellershaw, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. Ronan Long kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. Wally Ellershaw received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Jimmy Lydiate tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Walmley AFC's Rodd Downes shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 29th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Jimmy Lydiate but with some difficulty. Jimmy Lydiate showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wally Ellershaw, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. Jeff Read blasted a shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Greg Paine having to make a save. After a rather tough play, Walmley AFC's Damion Dumpleton got a free kick in the 35th minute. In the 36th minute of the match Julian Millman sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Greg Paine skillfully saved the ball. If Jeff Read had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. John Pollard fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jimmy Lydiate having to interfere. Jimmy Lydiate took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wally Ellershaw, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Wally Ellershaw was the one to do the kick off. When Calum Morgan came up free with the goalie in the 53rd minute, the Morden fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Calum Morgan couldn't finish the play. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jimmy Lydiate prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jeremy Addison during the 65th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 65th minute, Jeremy Addison hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Morden's Jimmy Lydiate played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Wally Ellershaw in the 67th minute of play. 69 minutes into the game, Micheal Childs was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Morden's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Walmley AFC the free kick. In a very dangerous position, a player in Morden fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 69th minute. Penalty! A collision led to Walmley AFC getting a freekick after 78 minutes play. Luke Bridgeworth hit a great ball. John Pollard sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jimmy Lydiate made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wally Ellershaw in the 97th minute of play.
