Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Tommy Byfield got the match started through his kick off. In the 4th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ulverston's goalkeeper Ross Holmes, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 9 minutes into the match, Ulverston's goal looked a bit too open when Tommy Byfield came free, but Ross Holmes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Howden's Tommy Byfield got a good chance for a goal in the 12th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ulverston's Ross Holmes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tommy Byfield in the 17th minute of play. In the 18th minute, Howden's Deon Blakeley ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Ross Holmes. Ross Holmes yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. If Alistair Brown had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Ross Holmes stood somewhat misplaced when Deon Blakeley came free in front of goal and shot 2-0 to the left of him in the 26 minute. After 31 played minutes Ulverston got a freekick which was hit by Matthew Hitchcock. After having played for 33 minutes, Deon Blakeley managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Howden's supporters crossed their fingers, but Deon Blakeley was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ross Holmes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tommy Byfield in the 38th minute of play. If Deon Blakeley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A hard shot 44 in the game by Deon Blakeley from a close distance when the talented Ross Holmes managed to make a qualified save. Ulverston's players were relieved. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tommy Byfield in the 47th minute of play forced Ulverston's goalkeeper Ross Holmes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Travis Barker made the kick off in the second half. Ross Holmes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marc Crowther, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. Howden's defense didn't have a chance, in the 53rd minute, when Travis Barker scored to the left of an out of position Will Glasby, making the score, 2-1. Ross Holmes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tommy Byfield in the 66th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Deon Blakeley in the 69th minute of play forced Ulverston's goalkeeper Ross Holmes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 75th minute Tommy Byfield shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ross Holmes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ross Holmes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tommy Byfield in the 81st minute of the match. Ross Holmes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tommy Byfield, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. In the 83rd match minute, Ulverston was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Drew Rawson to maneuver through the defense. Tommy Byfield fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 97th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ross Holmes having to interfere.
