But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Clive Bowler couldn't finish the play. Clive Bowler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Greg Paine having to interfere. Nigel Hodgson could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Greg Paine made a huge save. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.
Greg Paine showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Clive Bowler in the 55th minute of the match. Greg Paine made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Clive Bowler in the 57th minute of play. 62 minutes into the match, Jo Norton notched a goal, 4-0, to the right of Walmley AFC's Greg Paine. Greg Paine was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 66th minute, Clive Bowler got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Greg Paine came out of the goal in the 68th minute to try and stop a shot by Beckton's Clive Bowler. But to his dismay, Clive Bowler quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 5-0. Beckton made a substitution. Wayne Radcliffe replaced Johnnie Bennett. After a rather tough play, Walmley AFC's Wally Ellershaw got a free kick in the 73rd minute. Walmley AFC's John Pollard got a good chance for a goal in the 75th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Walmley AFC's Greg Paine played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Clive Bowler in the 77th minute of play. Jo Norton's late challenge caught a Walmley AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jo Norton helped the player get up and apologised. In the 87th minute, Jo Norton hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Clive Bowler received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Greg Paine tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 93rd minute Nigel Hodgson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Greg Paine saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 95th minute, Clive Bowler made a precise shot to the right of Greg Paine. Walmley AFC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 8-0. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Beckton had played much better football throughout.
