Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dennis Baker made the kick off and thus started the match. After a defensive mix-up in Downham Market AFC's zone, Barry Dobson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Des Yeo came out of the goal and Barry Dobson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 5 minutes into the match, Leigh's Ronnie Endean sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Des Yeo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 9 minutes into the game, Dennis Baker cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Des Yeo was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Victor Oates struck a weak shot in the 12th minute. Des Yeo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Leigh. Dennis Baker fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Des Yeo having to interfere. Ronnie Endean received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Des Yeo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Leigh's Barry Dobson got a free kick in the 16th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 17th minute, Jay Floyd managed to get in a good position for a shot. Downham Market AFC's supporters rose to their feet, but Jay Floyd was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Trevor Featherstone breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Dennis Baker fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Des Yeo having to interfere. With a little luck, Downham Market AFC's Des Yeo got control of the ball when Ronnie Endean tried to sneak it across the goal line. One of Leigh:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Downham Market AFC:s goal. In the 36th minute the ball was on its way in behind Downham Market AFC's goalkeeper Des Yeo, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. When Barry Dobson came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the Leigh fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Barry Dobson couldn't finish the play. 39 minutes into the match, Downham Market AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Barry Dobson came free, but Des Yeo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Barry Dobson came up free with the goalie in the 40th minute, the Leigh fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Barry Dobson couldn't finish the play. Leigh's Andy Bailey got a good chance for a goal in the 41st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Barry Dobson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Des Yeo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Victor Oates, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 46th minute, Brad Deaconsfield managed to get in a good position for a shot. Leigh's supporters rose to their feet, but Brad Deaconsfield was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Des Yeo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jay Floyd stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Ronnie Endean had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After 53 minutes, Barry Dobson mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Leigh and the Downham Market AFC players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Downham Market AFC booed when Leigh was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Barry Dobson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ronnie Endean struck a weak shot in the 57th minute. Des Yeo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. Des Yeo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Barry Dobson in the 70th minute of play. In the 72nd minute, Ronnie Endean left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Leigh fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. 75 minutes into the match, Loyd Langsford notched a goal, 3-1, to the right of Downham Market AFC's Des Yeo. Des Yeo was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. If Ronnie Endean had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Ronnie Endean sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Loyd Langsford had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Des Yeo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ronnie Endean in the 88th minute of play. In the 90th match minute, Downham Market AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Thomas Oldham to maneuver through the defense. When Leigh's Barry Dobson in the 92nd minute got a chance for a shot 92nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Downham Market AFC's goalie prevented a goal. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Leigh fully deserved thier win.
