Ian Haines fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Guy Dawson having to interfere. If Samuel Duffield had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When Herne Bay FC's Jim Perkins in the 16th minute got a chance for a shot 16th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Basildon's goalie prevented a goal. In the 17th match minute, Herne Bay FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ian Haines to maneuver through the defense. In the 22nd minute, Samuel Duffield got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 25th match minute, Basildon was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kris Bond to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Herne Bay FC's Robin Laycock got control of the ball when Jamal Dawson tried to sneak it across the goal line. Harry Devine struck a weak shot in the 35th minute. Guy Dawson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Herne Bay FC. Guy Dawson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jim Perkins in the 38th minute of play. Jamal Dawson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Robin Laycock having to interfere. Herne Bay FC's Robin Laycock played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Samuel Duffield in the 44th minute of play. If Ian Haines had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Samuel Duffield was the one to do the kick off. Samuel Duffield sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 57 minutes, Jamal Dawson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Basildon's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jamal Dawson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Basildon booed when Herne Bay FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 59 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jim Perkins didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jamal Dawson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jamal Dawson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Robin Laycock tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Samuel Duffield fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Robin Laycock having to interfere. Crispin Bagshaw took the ball and in the 72 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Robin Laycock. Robin Laycock dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. In the 80th minute, Basildon's Eddie Notley seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Eddie Notley the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Basildon protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Eddie Notley had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 80th minute, one of Basildon:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Basildon. The referee gave Herne Bay FC a penalty, 82 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Phil Case, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Basildon's Guy Dawson. 1-1. Phil Case hit a great freekick 89 minutes into the match. 91 minutes into the match, Basildon's Kris Bond broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. After 92 played minutes Herne Bay FC got a freekick which was hit by Harry Devine. When Jamal Dawson came up free with the goalie in the 94th minute, the Basildon fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jamal Dawson couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 98th minute, Jamal Dawson managed to get in a good position for a shot. Basildon's supporters rose to their feet, but Jamal Dawson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Robin Laycock breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
