The referee showed Nguyễn Hong the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 16 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. In the 26th minute Nguyễn Duy shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Đào Quang Thanh saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Vinh Long's zone, Nguyễn Duy stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Đào Quang Thanh came out of the goal and Nguyễn Duy tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 34th minute, Hoàng Huỳnh ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Đào Quang Thanh was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. If Trần Viet had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 44 minutes, Nguyễn Hung managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Tuyen Quang's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nguyễn Hung was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Trần Tho hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. When Hoàng Huỳnh came up free with the goalie in the 46th minute, the Tuyen Quang fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hoàng Huỳnh couldn't finish the play. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Hoàng Huỳnh was the one to do the kick off. Trần Viet received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Nguyễn Hong tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 60thth minute of the game Trần Viet who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Tuyen Quang's Nguyễn Hong was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Nguyễn Hung's late challenge caught a Vinh Long's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nguyễn Hung helped the player get up and apologised. Nguyễn Hung kicked well hit freekick during the 61st minute of the match. The supporters of Vinh Long booed when Tuyen Quang was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lê Phuoc didn't get a good kick on the ball. Đào Quang Thanh showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hoàng Huỳnh, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. Vinh Long's Đào Quang Thanh played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hoàng Huỳnh in the 70th minute of play. Nguyễn Duy fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Đào Quang Thanh having to interfere. If Nguyễn Duy had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hoàng Huỳnh sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nguyễn Duy fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Đào Quang Thanh having to interfere. In the 93rd minute, Trần Viet got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
