The audience thought a goal was coming when Nguyễn Khoi got free with Trần Hung in the 22nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Trần Hung made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bùi Ritchell in the 25th minute of play. In the 48th minute, Hai Phong's Huỳnh Duy dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-0.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Bùi Ritchell to strike the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Hai Phong booed when Son La was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Võ Minh didn't get a good kick on the ball. Son La's Trần Hung played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Huỳnh Duy in the 56th minute of play. 58 minutes into the game, Bùi Ritchell cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Huỳnh Duy in the 82nd minute of play forced Son La's goalkeeper Trần Hung to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
