When Phan Hung fell near the penalty area in the 2nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Viet Tri's protests and gave Phan Hung a yellow card for diving instead. Phan Hung hit a great freekick 2 minutes into the match. In the 3rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Viet Tri's goalkeeper Nguyễn Nam, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Phan Lan in the 5th minute of play forced Viet Tri's goalkeeper Nguyễn Nam to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 6th minute of the match Phan Thiet got a corner. Viet Tri's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Nguyễn Ritchell ran over to the corner to take the kick. The supporters of Phan Thiet booed when Viet Tri was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nguyễn Ritchell didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 12th minute Phan Lan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nguyễn Nam saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Viet Tri's zone, Nguyễn Nam stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nguyễn Nam came out of the goal and Nguyễn Nam tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 18th minute of the match Nguyễn Hoang shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Nguyễn Nam showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 22nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Phan Thiet's goalkeeper Nguyễn Teo, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Nguyễn Thien sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 26 minutes, Nguyễn Nam made it 1-0 with a short kick to the right side. Viet Tri's Nguyễn Nam tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Nguyễn Teo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nguyễn Thien in the 40th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Phan Lan in the 42nd minute of play forced Viet Tri's goalkeeper Nguyễn Nam to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Phan Lan stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Viet Tri's Nguyễn Khoi got a free kick in the 52nd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, Phan Lan managed to get in a good position for a shot. Phan Thiet's supporters rose to their feet, but Phan Lan was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nguyễn Nam breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Viet Tri's Nguyễn Thien got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Phan Lan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Nguyễn Nam tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 65 minutes, Nguyễn Ritchell mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Viet Tri and the Phan Thiet players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 66 minutes of play, Phan Thiet's Phan Lan made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Nguyễn Nam was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 69th minute Nguyễn Thien shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nguyễn Teo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nguyễn Nam received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Nguyễn Nam tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In a very dangerous position, a player in Viet Tri fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 78th minute. Penalty! Viet Tri:s Nguyễn Nam showed great skill when he stopped Nguyễn Ritchell:s penalty. An unexpectedly hard shot by Phan Lan in the 82nd minute of play forced Viet Tri's goalkeeper Nguyễn Nam to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Nguyễn Nam came up free with the goalie in the 84th minute, the Phan Thiet fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nguyễn Nam couldn't finish the play. Phan Lan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 85th minute. Nguyễn Nam tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Nguyễn Teo made an important save on a dangerous shot by Phan Hung in the 89th minute. In the 92nd minute, Phan Lan made a precise shot to the right of Nguyễn Nam. Viet Tri's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-0. Nguyễn Teo didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Nguyễn Thien went, in the 96th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-1 was the resulting score. When the referee ended the match the Phan Thiet players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
