Nguyễn Hieu made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. If Phan Duy had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. Son La's Nguyễn Minh got a good chance for a goal in the 57th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 60 minutes into the match, Son La's goal looked a bit too open when Nguyễn Lan came free, but Nguyễn Thai reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Phan Duy in the 85th minute of play forced Son La's goalkeeper Nguyễn Thai to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 91 minutes of play, Quang Ngai's Phan Duy made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. In the 97th minute the ball was on its way in behind Quang Ngai's goalkeeper Nguyễn Hieu, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
