Lê Than could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 5th minute of the match, but Nguyễn Duc made a huge save. Trần Phuong made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Phạm Nhật Minh in the 6th minute of play. Trần Phuong showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Phạm Nhật Minh, who was totally free with the ball in the 10th minute. Đỗ Cuc kicked well hit freekick during the 11th minute of the match. A collision led to Thanh Hoa getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Nguyễn Tran hit a great ball. Trần Phuong stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Phạm Nhật Minh's shot from short distance in the 19th minute. In the 21st minute Đào Viet shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nguyễn Duc saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 21st minute, one of Nguyen Gia:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Nguyen Gia. An unexpectedly hard shot by Phạm Nhật Minh in the 26th minute of play forced Thanh Hoa's goalkeeper Trần Phuong to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Nguyễn Tuan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

Nguyễn Duc took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Huỳnh Thi, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Nguyen Gia's zone, Lê Than stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nguyễn Duc came out of the goal and Lê Than tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
