Nguyễn Tan went to the wrong direction when Đỗ Cuc was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. When Phan Thanh Bình fell near the penalty area in the 40th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Hanoi's protests and gave Phan Thanh Bình a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Hanoi getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Phan Thanh Bình hit a great ball.
Phan Thanh Bình's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Phan Thien read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 51st minute of play. Lê Thi charged in rather forcefully in the 67th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. If Trần Hoang had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Phan Thien was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Ngô Liem showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-3 in the 85 minute of play. Phan Thien made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ngô Liem in the 88th minute of play. With a little luck, Dak Lak's Phan Thien got control of the ball when Trần Hoang tried to sneak it across the goal line. After having played for 94 minutes, Chung Hoai managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. After a defensive mix-up in Dak Lak's zone, Trần Hoang stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Phan Thien came out of the goal and Trần Hoang tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Hanoi eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
