Vi Thanh's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nguyễn Lien was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Chung Quang Thanh during the 22nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 23 played minutes Cam Ranh got a freekick which was hit by Chung Quang Thanh. A collision led to Vi Thanh getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Lưu Tho hit a great ball. 26 minutes into the match, Cam Ranh's Lý Binh broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Nguyễn Cuc might have been able to make a better finish in the 30th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Lê Hung. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nguyễn Cuc ran back to his position shaking his head. If Hoàng Mai had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hoàng Mai sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Nguyễn Loc kicked well hit freekick during the 34th minute of the match. After 35 played minutes Vi Thanh got a freekick which was hit by Trần Xuan. If Nguyễn Lien had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Vi Thanh's zone, Hoàng Mai stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lê Hung came out of the goal and Hoàng Mai tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 44 played minutes Cam Ranh got a freekick which was hit by Nguyễn Duong. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Hoàng Mai was the one to do the kick off. Vi Thanh's Nguyễn Lien got a good chance for a goal in the 52nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Nguyễn Lien received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. Trần Tuyet tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Nguyễn Minh-ha's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Trần Tuyet was relentless in the 57th minute of the game. Nguyễn Lien fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Trần Tuyet having to interfere. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Vi Thanh players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
