In the 11th minute, Nguyễn Khoi got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 14th minute, Dương Cuc hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 15 minutes, Dương Cuc mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Ronaldo and the Manchester players grew even worse after the yellow card. Dương Cuc hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. After 16 played minutes, Manchester's Nguyễn Khoi shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Phạm Hieu Ngan came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Manchester reached it. 30 minutes into the match, Manchester's goalkeeper Hoàng Hung had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nguyễn Minh. Nguyễn Khoi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dương Cuc was shown his second yellow card after 31 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. In the 32nd minute, Dương Cuc hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Nguyễn Bien had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Manchester's Hoàng Hung got control of the ball when Nguyễn Minh tried to sneak it across the goal line. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Nguyễn Minh to strike the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the game, Nguyễn Khoi lined in a short shot 0-1 behind a frustrated Phạm Hieu Ngan. A collision led to Ronaldo getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Phan Teo hit a great ball. The long shot by Nguyễn Khoi in the 56th minute really tested Phạm Hieu Ngan's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Trịnh Tan was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 58 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Manchester's Trịnh Tan got a free kick in the 59th minute. When Nguyễn Khoi fell near the penalty area in the 61st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Manchester's protests and gave Nguyễn Khoi a yellow card for diving instead. Nguyễn Khoi kicked well hit freekick during the 61st minute of the match. Phạm Hieu Ngan didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 65th minute, which inside left pole to 0-2. After some fancy dribbling in the 68th minute, Vũ Tran managed to get in a good position for a shot. Manchester's supporters rose to their feet, but Vũ Tran was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Phạm Hieu Ngan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Nguyễn Minh received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Hoàng Hung tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 75th match minute, Ronaldo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nguyễn Bay to maneuver through the defense. In the 76th minute, Nguyễn Khoi fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Phạm Hieu Ngan, passed just outside the right post. Nguyễn Bien recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 82nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 84th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ronaldo's goalkeeper Phạm Hieu Ngan, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Nguyễn Bien kicked well hit freekick during the 86th minute of the match. The supporters of Ronaldo booed when Manchester was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nguyễn Khoi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Trần Hong fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Phạm Hieu Ngan having to interfere.
