A collision led to Dong Xoai getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Nguyễn Liem hit a great ball. Đặng Loc fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Lam having to interfere. Nguyễn Chung hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. With his leg Nguyễn Lam managed to avoid a goal in the 33rdth minute, when Dong Xoai's Đặng Loc fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 38th minute, Trần Hoang hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 39th minute, Nguyễn Than got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Nguyễn Quang came up free with the goalie in the 45th minute, the Dong Xoai fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nguyễn Quang couldn't finish the play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nguyễn Than in the 48th minute of play forced Dong Xoai's goalkeeper Lê Phong to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Nguyễn Quang made the kick off in the second half. Đặng Loc blasted a shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Nguyễn Lam having to make a save. Dong Xoai's Đặng Loc got a good chance for a goal in the 57th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Phan Teo in the 62nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Lê Phong prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The supporters of Phan Thiet booed when Dong Xoai was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Phan Tuan didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nguyễn Nam, 64 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. 79 minutes into the game, Nguyễn Quang cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-0. Nguyễn Lam was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Trần Hoang's late challenge caught a Phan Thiet's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Trần Hoang helped the player get up and apologised. In the 85th minute, Trần Hoang hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Nguyễn Than recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 86th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Nguyễn Than received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Lê Phong tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Phan Teo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
