An unexpectedly hard shot by Trần Hanh in the 15th minute of play forced Manchester City's goalkeeper Mai Thuy to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Nguyễn Thanh Bình showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Nguyễn Thanh Bình made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lê Teo in the 37th minute. The supporters of Manchester City booed when Kontum was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nguyễn Duong didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nguyễn Thanh Bình came out of the goal in the 38th minute to try and stop a shot by Manchester City's Lê Teo. But to his dismay, Lê Teo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Mai Thuy showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nguyễn Minh in the 46th minute of the match. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

After 52 played minutes, Manchester City's Phan Hoang shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Nguyễn Thanh Bình came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Manchester City reached it. When Manchester City's Phan Viet in the 53rd minute got a chance for a shot 53rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Kontum's goalie prevented a goal. Nguyễn Thanh Bình didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Phan Viet went, in the 57th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-0 was the resulting score. In the 63rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Kontum's goalkeeper Nguyễn Thanh Bình, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. When Phan Viet came up free with the goalie in the 67th minute, the Manchester City fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Phan Viet couldn't finish the play. After 69 played minutes, Manchester City's Nguyễn Pham shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Nguyễn Thanh Bình came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. Manchester City's supporters rose to their feet, but Lê Teo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nguyễn Thanh Bình breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Mai Thuy made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nguyễn Minh in the 88th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lê Teo in the 91st minute of play forced Kontum's goalkeeper Nguyễn Thanh Bình to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nguyễn Nga could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 95th minute of the match, but Mai Thuy made a huge save. Manchester City's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
