The penalty shot was made by Huỳnh Ho, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Ha Tinh's Nguyễn Hong. 0-1. In the 10th minute, Nguyễn Minh hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Trần Hung had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Ha Tinh's zone, Trần Hung stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nguyễn Hong came out of the goal and Trần Hung tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Lê Dung took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Trần Hieu Ngan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Trần Hieu Ngan struck a weak shot in the 34th minute. Lê Dung didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ha Tinh. After 36 played minutes Ha Giang got a freekick which was hit by Nguyễn Hong. With a little luck, Ha Giang's Lê Dung got control of the ball when Nguyễn Thi tried to sneak it across the goal line. Tôn Duc kicked well hit freekick during the 44th minute of the match. Trần Hieu Ngan might have been able to make a better finish in the 45th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Lê Dung. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Trần Hieu Ngan ran back to his position shaking his head. If Nguyễn Thi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Ha Tinh's Trần Hieu Ngan got a good chance for a goal in the 46th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A collision led to Ha Giang getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Lê Nam hit a great ball. After the first half Ha Giang were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Trần Hung to make the kick off. Ha Giang's Huỳnh Ho suffered a sore foot after 53 minutes and couldn't finish the game. 53 minutes into the game, Nguyễn Thi was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ha Tinh's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ha Giang the free kick. Ha Giang's Lê Dung played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Trần Hieu Ngan in the 74th minute of play. If Trần Hieu Ngan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hoàng Viet fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Hong having to interfere. Nguyễn Thi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 81st minute. Lê Dung tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Thanks to some nice moves Hoàng Viet could shoot a difficult shot in the 83rd minute, which Nguyễn Hong however easily saved by the left post.
