Nguyễn Minh fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Đặng Lien having to interfere. 15 minutes into the match, My Tho's Nguyễn Minh sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Đặng Lien narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Nguyễn Minh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hai Duong's Đặng Lien played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lê Duc in the 19th minute of play. The supporters of Hai Duong booed when My Tho was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hoàng Phuc didn't get a good kick on the ball. Đặng Lien took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nguyễn Minh, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Nguyễn Minh received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Đặng Lien tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Lê Duc received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Đặng Lien tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 43rd minute Lê Duc shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Đặng Lien saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lê Duc in the 46th minute of play forced Hai Duong's goalkeeper Đặng Lien to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Trần Huy was the one to do the kick off. After some careless play in the My Tho defense, Bùi Dong kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Lê Thanh Bình. Trần Hieu Ngan took the ball and in the 73 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Lê Thanh Bình. Lê Thanh Bình dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. Nguyễn Minh's late challenge caught a Hai Duong's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nguyễn Minh helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, My Tho's Nguyễn Minh got a free kick in the 76th minute. 78 minutes into the match, Hai Duong's goalkeeper Đặng Lien had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nguyễn Minh. Trần Hieu Ngan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Lê Thanh Bình showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Trần Huy, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. Trần Huy's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Lê Thanh Bình read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 88th minute of play. After 93 minutes, Văn Diem mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Hai Duong and the My Tho players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 92nd minute of the game. One of Hai Duong:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of My Tho:s goal. Hoàng Nguyet walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. Hai Duong's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
