Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dien Bien Phu's Trương Nam started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Trần Nghiêm-Minh stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Phạm Chi's shot from short distance in the 2nd minute. Nguyễn Nga hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. Nguyễn Quang took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 6th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Nguyễn Hong. Viet Nam's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. When the match had gone on for 10 minutes, Phạm Chi put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Trần Nghiêm-Minh. 13 minutes into the game, Phạm Hoai cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Nguyễn Hong was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Phạm Chi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Trần Van Quyen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Lê Huy sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 26 minutes, Phạm Chi managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Viet Nam's supporters crossed their fingers, but Phạm Chi was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 28 minutes into the match, Viet Nam's Trần Van Quyen sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Trần Nghiêm-Minh narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 29th minute Trương Nam shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nguyễn Hong saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nguyễn Hong made an important save on a dangerous shot by Phạm Hoai in the 30th minute. Through an outstanding action, after 31 minutes, Nguyễn Hong successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Phạm Hoai recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 41st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 42 minutes into the match, Viet Nam's goalkeeper Nguyễn Hong had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Phạm Hoai. Lê Huy sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Phạm Chi stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Nguyễn Hong showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Trương Nam in the 54th minute of the match. In the 60th match minute, Dien Bien Phu was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nguyễn Viet to maneuver through the defense. Nguyễn Hong took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Phạm Hoai, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lê Huy charged in rather forcefully in the 67th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Lê Huy the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 69thth minute of the game Trương Nam who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Viet Nam's Nguyễn Hong was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 73 minutes into the match, Nguyễn Tuan notched a goal, 3-2, to the right of Viet Nam's Nguyễn Hong. Nguyễn Hong was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 76 minutes into the game, Huỳnh Dong was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Dien Bien Phu's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Viet Nam the free kick. In the 76th match minute, Dien Bien Phu was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Huỳnh Dong to maneuver through the defense. Viet Nam's Phạm Chi couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 77th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Dien Bien Phu. If Lê Huy had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dien Bien Phu's Phạm Hoai pulled a muscle in his leg after 84 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Dương Mai charged in rather forcefully in the 84th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Dương Mai the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 84 played minutes Viet Nam got a freekick which was hit by Dương Mai. In the 86th match minute, Viet Nam was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nguyễn Nga to maneuver through the defense. When Nguyễn Bien came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Viet Nam fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nguyễn Bien couldn't finish the play. Phạm Chi struck a weak shot in the 94th minute. Trần Nghiêm-Minh didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Viet Nam.
