Ben Tre's Trần Minh Phượng played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nguyễn Tuan in the 36th minute of play. 41 minutes into the game, Nguyễn Duc was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ben Tre's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Đùa bố ak the free kick. After 41 played minutes Ben Tre got a freekick which was hit by Nguyễn Duc. In the 43rd minute, Đặng Pham left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Đùa bố ak fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

After 50 minutes, Nguyễn Viet mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Đùa bố ak and the Ben Tre players grew even worse after the yellow card.
