The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Phan Quang had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Liễu Hong kicked well hit freekick during the 13th minute of the match. Bu Dop's Nguyễn Phong proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 14th minute of the match, managed to save Bu Dop from getting a goal against them. Nguyễn Nga recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 24 minutes, Nguyễn Thien mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Vinh Long and the Bu Dop players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 24th match minute, Vinh Long was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nguyễn Thien to maneuver through the defense. In the 25th minute Trần Hung shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nguyễn Quang Thanh saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Trần Hung sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Vinh Long booed when Bu Dop was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nguyễn Tran didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nguyễn Thien's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nguyễn Phong read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 32nd minute of play. In the 34th match minute, Bu Dop was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Phan Quang to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Bu Dop's Đặng Thi got a free kick in the 38th minute. The Vinh Long fans' excitement grew in the 39th match minute when Vinh Long's Nguyễn Thien looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Nguyễn Phong made an important save on a dangerous shot by Nguyễn Nga in the 44th minute. If Nguyễn Thien had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nguyễn Thien to make the kick off. After a rather tough play, Bu Dop's Nguyễn Tinh got a free kick in the 51st minute. In the 52nd minute, Trần Nguyet sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Bu Dop's Nguyễn Phong didn't even have to move. Vinh Long's Nguyễn Nga got a good chance for a goal in the 54th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Nguyễn Thien received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Nguyễn Phong tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Nguyễn Thien had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Vinh Long's Nguyễn Minh got a free kick in the 64th minute. When Phan Quang came up free with the goalie in the 66th minute, the Bu Dop fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Phan Quang couldn't finish the play. Vinh Long's Nguyễn Quang Thanh played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Phan Quang in the 70th minute of play. Phan Quang received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Nguyễn Quang Thanh tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Nguyễn Nga blasted a shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Nguyễn Phong having to make a save. If Nguyễn Thien had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Bu Dop's Liễu Hong got a free kick in the 77th minute. Nguyễn Minh charged in rather forcefully in the 79th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Nguyễn Minh the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Vinh Long getting a freekick after 79 minutes play. Nguyễn Minh hit a great ball. Vinh Long's Nguyễn Minh got his second yellow card of the match in the 82nd minute. The referee ordered Nguyễn Minh off the ground. In the 83rd match minute, Vinh Long was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nguyễn Minh to maneuver through the defense. Đặng Thi took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 83rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Nguyễn Quang Thanh. Vinh Long's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 85 minutes into the match, Nguyễn Nga notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of Bu Dop's Nguyễn Phong. Nguyễn Phong was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 88 minutes into the game, Võ Dinh was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Bu Dop's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Vinh Long the free kick.
