In the 16thth minute of the game Lê Tong who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Son Tay's Nguyễn Nhật Minh was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 23 minutes, Trần Xuan mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Mong Cai and the Son Tay players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 23 played minutes Mong Cai got a freekick which was hit by Trần Xuan. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Lê Tong in the 25th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Nguyễn Nhật Minh saved Son Tay from getting behind. Mong Cai's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Son Tay the free kick. After a rather tough play, Mong Cai's Trần Chung got a free kick in the 38th minute. In the 42nd minute, Nguyễn Than hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Nguyễn Thuy showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nguyễn Loc, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Mong Cai's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Son Tay the free kick. In the 64th play minute Đặng Liem came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Nguyễn Nhật Minh. 3-1. Nguyễn Loc fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Thuy having to interfere. If Nguyễn Diem had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead.
