Trần Hieu's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nguyễn Hoang read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 15th minute of play. 16 minutes in the game, the ball went up into the seats when leverkusen's Trần Hieu fired away a shot that was just a little bit too high. He walked away shaking his head. Phan Thiet's Nguyễn Hoang played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Trần Hieu in the 19th minute of play. In the 21st minute, Nguyễn Huỳnh reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Đoàn Tuyet. The goal made the score 1-0. 26 minutes into the game, Trần Hieu cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Nguyễn Hoang was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Nguyễn Huỳnh might have been able to make a better finish in the 31st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Đoàn Tuyet. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nguyễn Huỳnh ran back to his position shaking his head. Nguyễn Nam kicked well hit freekick during the 32nd minute of the match. A collision led to leverkusen getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Vũ Cong Vinh hit a great ball. Hoàng Duy took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 34th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Đoàn Tuyet. leverkusen's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Nguyễn Huỳnh stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 56 minutes into the game, leverkusen's Phạm Thanh nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Nguyễn Hoang made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. Nguyễn Hoang made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Trần Hieu in the 60th minute of play. Trần Van Tai Em hit a great freekick 63 minutes into the match. In the 64th minute, Phạm Thanh got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Nguyễn Huỳnh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Trần Hieu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 73rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Đoàn Tuyet showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nguyễn Huỳnh in the 76th minute of the match. Trần Hieu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Phạm Thanh's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 80thth minute, Nguyễn Hoang skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. 82 minutes in the game, Trần Hieu fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Nguyễn Hoang having to interfere. Phạm Thanh who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 82ndth minute tested the skills of Nguyễn Hoang when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in Phan Thiet's zone, Phạm Thanh stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nguyễn Hoang came out of the goal and Phạm Thanh tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After recieving a nice pass, leverkusen's Nguyễn Nguyet tried to score from far away in the 93rd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Phạm Thanh fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Hoang having to interfere. leverkusen's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
