The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Trần Cuc showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Trần Loc in the 6th minute of play forced Vinh Long's goalkeeper Trần Cuc to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Bùi Viet fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Trần Cuc having to interfere. Đặng Duy fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Anh Hung having to interfere. Trần Loc's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Trần Cuc read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 13th minute of play. Nguyễn Tấn Dũng fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Anh Hung having to interfere. When Bùi Viet came up free with the goalie in the 45th minute, the Dong Son fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bùi Viet couldn't finish the play. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Trần Loc to make the kick off. After 55 played minutes Dong Son got a freekick which was hit by Huỳnh Cadeo. Nguyễn Tấn Dũng received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Nguyễn Anh Hung tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Nguyễn Van Tai Em hit a great freekick 57 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 70th minute, Nguyễn Tấn Dũng managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vinh Long's supporters rose to their feet, but Nguyễn Tấn Dũng was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nguyễn Anh Hung breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. A collision led to Vinh Long getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Lâm Duc hit a great ball. After some careless play in the Vinh Long defense, Trần Loc kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Trần Cuc. The Vinh Long fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Trần Cuc should have stopped the shot. 80 minutes into the match, Vinh Long's goal looked a bit too open when Trần Loc came free, but Trần Cuc reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Vinh Long getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Nguyễn Hieu Ngan hit a great ball. Nguyễn Anh Hung made an important save on a dangerous shot by Nguyễn Tấn Dũng in the 86th minute. Trần Cuc showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Trần Loc, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. After a rather tough play, Dong Son's Nguyễn Loc got a free kick in the 90th minute. Nguyễn Anh Hung came out of the goal in the 92nd minute to try and stop a shot by Vinh Long's Nguyễn Tấn Dũng. But to his dismay, Nguyễn Tấn Dũng quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. If Nguyễn Tấn Dũng had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vinh Long's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
