Lê Minh charged in rather forcefully in the 6th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Lê Minh the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Manchester City getting a freekick after 6 minutes play. Lê Minh hit a great ball. Phan Huỳnh made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nguyễn Lien in the 9th minute of play. Đinh Van Tai Em fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Anh Hung having to interfere. In the 14th minute of the match Nguyễn Xuan shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Phan Huỳnh showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Nguyễn Anh Hung stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Đinh Van Tai Em's shot from short distance in the 19th minute. Đinh Van Tai Em had several of the TPHCM's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 19 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-0 score and a disappointed Nguyễn Anh Hung as he didn't even see the shot coming. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Phan Chi during the 22nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 22nd minute, Phan Chi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Đào Thien sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 26 minutes, Đào Thien managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. TPHCM's supporters crossed their fingers, but Đào Thien was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Đỗ Cuc succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 2-0 in the 28th playminute. 31 minutes into the match, TPHCM's Nguyễn Lien sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Phan Huỳnh narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Phan Huỳnh came out of the goal in the 34th minute to try and stop a shot by TPHCM's Đào Thien. But to his dismay, Đào Thien quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. Nguyễn Lien recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 38th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 41 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for TPHCM! When the match had been going on for 42 minutes, Manchester City's Nguyễn Quang Thanh got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Nguyễn Anh Hung. Đỗ Cuc struck a weak shot in the 49th minute. Nguyễn Anh Hung didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Manchester City. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-1.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Đào Thien to strike the kick off in the second half. When Đỗ Cuc came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Manchester City fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Đỗ Cuc couldn't finish the play. Nguyễn Anh Hung made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Đinh Van Tai Em in the 56th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Đinh Van Tai Em in the 58th minute of play forced TPHCM's goalkeeper Nguyễn Anh Hung to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Đào Thien could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 60th minute of the match, but Phan Huỳnh made a huge save. Nguyễn Anh Hung stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Đinh Van Tai Em's shot from short distance in the 62nd minute. In the 64thth minute of the game Đỗ Cuc who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but TPHCM's Nguyễn Anh Hung was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Phan Huỳnh made an important save on a dangerous shot by Nguyễn Lien in the 69th minute. Phan Huỳnh showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Đào Thien, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. In the 74th minute Đỗ Cuc shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nguyễn Anh Hung saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 75 minutes, Đỗ Cuc managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Manchester City's supporters crossed their fingers, but Đỗ Cuc was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Phan Chi got his second yellow card in the match during the 78th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. 78 minutes into the game, one of Manchester City:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. When the match clock showed 83 minutes, the score became 3-3 when Nguyễn Lien sped through Manchester City's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Phan Huỳnh. Đinh Van Tai Em's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nguyễn Anh Hung read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 89th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Manchester City's Đỗ Cuc got a free kick in the 91st minute. In the 93rd minute, TPHCM's Đào Thien ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Phan Huỳnh. Phan Huỳnh yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 3-4. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched TPHCM eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
