In the 6th match minute, Barcelona FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mai Thanh to maneuver through the defense. Nguyễn Huynh Duc blasted a shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Võ Tan having to make a save. After a rather tough play, Binh Dinh's Nguyễn Cadeo got a free kick in the 28th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 29th minute, Nguyễn Huynh Duc managed to get in a good position for a shot. Barcelona FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Nguyễn Huynh Duc was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Võ Tan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Nguyễn Bay showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Đặng Chi, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. Binh Dinh's La Hung got a good chance for a goal in the 35th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Đặng Chi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Barcelona FC getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Lê Thuy hit a great ball. Nguyễn Bay made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Đặng Chi in the 44th minute of play. 46 minutes into the game, Đặng Chi lined in a short shot 1-1 behind a frustrated Nguyễn Bay. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Binh Dinh's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nguyễn Cadeo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. La Hung struck a weak shot in the 77th minute. Nguyễn Bay didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Binh Dinh. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Trần Hong Minh during the 79th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 78 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Barcelona FC! Nguyễn Pham shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Đặng Chi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Bay having to interfere. Nguyễn Bay took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Đặng Chi, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Đặng Chi's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nguyễn Bay was relentless in the 93rd minute of the game. After 94 minutes, Nguyễn Liem mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Binh Dinh and the Barcelona FC players grew even worse after the yellow card.
