The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Vũ Hieu Ngan during the 4th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 4 played minutes King Kong Hà Nội got a freekick which was hit by Vũ Hieu Ngan. 5 minutes into the match, King Kong Hà Nội's goal looked a bit too open when Trần Teo came free, but Nguyễn Quang reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Nguyễn Quang took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nguyễn Duc, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Nguyễn Quang showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nguyễn Duc in the 6th minute of the match. Nguyễn Chi recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 12th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Batuğ Üstündağ fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lưu Thuyet having to interfere. King Kong Hà Nội's Nguyễn Quang played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nguyễn Chi in the 18th minute of play. 23 minutes into the match, King Kong Hà Nội's goal looked a bit too open when Nguyễn Chi came free, but Nguyễn Quang reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 29 minutes into the match, Nguyễn Chi had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Nguyễn Quang. King Kong Hà Nội's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Nguyễn Chi was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. After a rather tough play, Sài Gòn's Huỳnh Dung got a free kick in the 31st minute. Sài Gòn's Lưu Thuyet proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 32nd minute of the match, managed to save Sài Gòn from getting a goal against them. King Kong Hà Nội were awarded a corner in the 33th minute after Sài Gòn's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Batuğ Üstündağ took the corner. 39 minutes into the game, Trần Teo cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-4. Nguyễn Quang was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 46th minute Nguyễn Duc shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nguyễn Quang saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After the first half Sài Gòn were leading 0-4. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
Nguyễn Quang made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nguyễn Duc in the 53rd minute of play. Rudolf Krooni received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Lưu Thuyet tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 59 minutes into the match, King Kong Hà Nội's goalkeeper Nguyễn Quang had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nguyễn Chi. A collision led to Sài Gòn getting a freekick after 60 minutes play. Vũ Tấn Dũng hit a great ball. If Batuğ Üstündağ had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 67 minutes into the match, Trần Teo dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Nguyễn Quang, 0-5. The supporters of Sài Gòn booed when King Kong Hà Nội was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vũ Hieu Ngan didn't get a good kick on the ball. King Kong Hà Nội's Nguyễn Quang proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 76th minute of the match, managed to save King Kong Hà Nội from getting a goal against them. Nguyễn Quang showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nguyễn Duc in the 78th minute of the match. 81 minutes into the match, Nguyễn Chi dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Nguyễn Quang, 0-6. Nguyễn Lan scored 0-7 in the 85th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Nguyễn Quang, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Lưu Thuyet didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Rudolf Krooni went, in the 88th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-7 was the resulting score. In the 92nd minute 叶烽国 shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lưu Thuyet saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nguyễn Duc received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Nguyễn Quang came out and tried to block the shot, but Nguyễn Duc slotted it home off the left post making it 1-8 in the 97th minute. The King Kong Hà Nội fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Sài Gòn were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
