The ball had pretty good speed, but Cliff Workman firmly grabbed it by the left post. 24 minutes into the game, Deon Branch cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Azli Gopala Pillai was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 29th minute Ang Kool shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cliff Workman saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Deon Branch fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Azli Gopala Pillai having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Alwinton United's zone, Adrian Pitts stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Azli Gopala Pillai came out of the goal and Adrian Pitts tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After the first half Macclesfield United were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Deon Branch stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Azli Gopala Pillai took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Deon Branch, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 53rd minute, Deon Branch ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Azli Gopala Pillai was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Adrian Pitts scored 0-3 in the 56th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Azli Gopala Pillai, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 61 minutes into the match, Ang Kool had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Cliff Workman. Macclesfield United's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ang Kool was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. Steven Sarangapani might have been able to make a better finish in the 64th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Cliff Workman. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Steven Sarangapani ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Steven Sarangapani in the 66th minute of play forced Macclesfield United's goalkeeper Cliff Workman to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Steven Sarangapani received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Cliff Workman tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Alwinton United's Azli Gopala Pillai proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 73rd minute of the match, managed to save Alwinton United from getting a goal against them. 74 minutes into the match, Macclesfield United's goal looked a bit too open when Steven Sarangapani came free, but Cliff Workman reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Azli Gopala Pillai showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Deon Branch in the 78th minute of the match. 79 minutes into the match, Alwinton United's goal looked a bit too open when Deon Branch came free, but Azli Gopala Pillai reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
