A collision led to Macclesfield United getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Perry Weeks hit a great ball. Faris Lam kicked well hit freekick during the 20th minute of the match. After having played for 21 minutes, Adrian Pitts managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Macclesfield United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Adrian Pitts was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Adam Cheng who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 23rdth minute tested the skills of Cliff Workman when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Ang Namasivayam sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 29th minute, Macclesfield United's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Ang Namasivayam fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Adam Cheng fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cliff Workman having to interfere. Cliff Workman showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Faris Lam, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. Cliff Workman showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hidayat Liang in the 37th minute of the match. Ang Namasivayam sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ong Vijiaratnam stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Deon Branch's shot from short distance in the 42nd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Deon Branch in the 43rd minute of play forced Manchester United's goalkeeper Ong Vijiaratnam to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Macclesfield United's Cliff Workman got control of the ball when Adam Cheng tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. In the 63rd minute, Faris Lam got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ang Namasivayam fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cliff Workman having to interfere. After 68 minutes, Hidayat Liang mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Manchester United and the Macclesfield United players grew even worse after the yellow card. When Manchester United's Faris Lam in the 70th minute got a chance for a shot 70th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Adam Cheng in the 88th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Cliff Workman saved Macclesfield United from getting behind. Ong Vijiaratnam made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Deon Branch in the 90th minute of play. In a very dangerous position, a player in Macclesfield United fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 91st minute. Penalty! 92 minutes into the match, Adam Cheng notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of Macclesfield United's Cliff Workman. Cliff Workman was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. There was no doubt that Manchester United were the better team.
