The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After having played for 6 minutes, Rusli Kosasih managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gwangju1980's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rusli Kosasih was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Honorato Cordareo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leo Berggren in the 8th minute of the match. In the 9th minute Gwangju1980 were awarded a corner. 최 남 went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Gwangju1980's corner 최 남 fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Honorato Cordareo quite easily take care of the ball. But to his dismay, 김 연 quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by 김 초 during the 19th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 김 초 hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. Honorato Cordareo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leo Berggren in the 23rd minute of play. La Rompen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from 김 갈, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Honorato Cordareo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Leo Berggren, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. The supporters of Gwangju1980 booed when K-Stars was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. 김 돈 didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Gwangju1980 fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that La Rompen should have stopped the shot.
