To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Meermaul getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Rod Hauschildt hit a great ball. 0-3 became the score in the 34th minute when Adolfo Paynter elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. In the 42nd minute Adolfo Paynter shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Duke Christian saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Pedro Ronaldinho to make the kick off. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Pedro Ronaldinho in the 54th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Duke Christian prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The supporters of Goonaus booed when Meermaul was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ernest Orourke didn't get a good kick on the ball. Fleming Goucher took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 80th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Duke Christian. Meermaul's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Adolfo Paynter got free with Duke Christian in the 85th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Duke Christian took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pedro Ronaldinho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Pedro Ronaldinho's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 87thth minute, Duke Christian skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Barney Reilly recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 97th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 98th minute, Brannan Lingwoodock hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience was convinced that Rod Hauschildt's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Bob Stevens was relentless in the 99th minute of the game. Goonaus's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
