In the 14th minute, Danton Jeavons got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 23rd minute of the match, Long Leach tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Jason Whelpton saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Jason Whelpton came out of the goal in the 25th minute to try and stop a shot by St Kilda FC's Norman Grigson. But to his dismay, Norman Grigson quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. In the 29th minute Earl Mackney shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marshall Hayward saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 33rd minute, St Kilda FC's Long Leach dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 3-0. Jason Whelpton made an important save on a dangerous shot by Raymond Crampton in the 42nd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 45th minute, Norman Grigson managed to get in a good position for a shot. St Kilda FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Norman Grigson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jason Whelpton breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Danton Jeavons to make the kick off. Jason Whelpton took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bock See, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 57th match minute, St Kilda FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bartholemew Maslin to maneuver through the defense. In the 60th minute, Bock See ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jason Whelpton was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-0. Raymond Crampton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the last second Marshall Hayward throw himself and got hold of the ball when Danton Jeavons in the 71stth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Raymond Crampton in the 75th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jason Whelpton prevented the ball from getting in the gole. St Kilda FC's Norman Grigson got a good chance for a goal in the 77th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a rather tough play, St Kilda FC's Frankie Frank got a free kick in the 85th minute. When the match had gone on for 86 minutes, Danton Jeavons put it in 4-1 from a short distance just to the right of Marshall Hayward.
