After 3 minutes, Bill Haydock mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Nambour and the Montero United players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Nambour's Bill Haydock got a free kick in the 3rd minute. After 4 played minutes, Montero United's Angus Shorten shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Nash Cassilly came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Montero United reached it. When Ace Moon fell near the penalty area in the 9th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Montero United's protests and gave Ace Moon a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Nambour booed when Montero United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ace Moon didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lucas Fraser sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lucas Fraser got free with Nichol Lenard in the 24th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Lucas Fraser fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nichol Lenard having to interfere. 34 minutes into the match, Montero United's goal looked a bit too open when Laurence Lewry came free, but Nichol Lenard reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 36 minutes, Laurence Lewry managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Nambour's supporters crossed their fingers, but Laurence Lewry was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Nichol Lenard made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lucas Fraser in the 38th minute. In the 40th minute, Laurence Lewry hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Montero United's Robert Locke got a free kick in the 44th minute. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Angus Shorten stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Nichol Lenard made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Laurence Lewry in the 57th minute of play. In the 61st minute Bruce Goodbun shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nichol Lenard saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nichol Lenard showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Laurence Lewry in the 78th minute of the match. Montero United's Nichol Lenard played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lucas Fraser in the 79th minute of play. 80 minutes into the match, Montero United's goal looked a bit too open when Iggy Bouer came free, but Nichol Lenard reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Robert Locke during the 83rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Nambour had played much better football throughout.
