Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Belton Palmington made the kick off and thus started the match. When Bradshaw Trenoweth fell near the penalty area in the 3rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Wapengo's protests and gave Bradshaw Trenoweth a yellow card for diving instead. After 3 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Wapengo! Wantirna were awarded a corner in the 6th minute after Wapengo's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Rolando Beaverley took the corner. A well-hit corner resulted in Dane Ziliotto heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Darryl Hinwood recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 8th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 12 played minutes Wapengo got a freekick which was hit by Jagger Reichelt. The audience was convinced that Neil Hoey's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Barnabas Boston was relentless in the 15th minute of the game. Wapengo's Crawford Galvin proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 19th minute of the match, managed to save Wapengo from getting a goal against them. Barnabas Boston took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Neil Hoey, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Wantirna's Darryl Hinwood got a good chance for a goal in the 25th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Wantirna's Barnabas Boston played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Benny Gilding in the 30th minute of play. In the 30th match minute, Wantirna was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Abe Nunn to maneuver through the defense. Barnabas Boston showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Neil Hoey, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. The attack was good, but when Belton Palmington in the 35th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. If Benny Gilding had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Barnabas Boston stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Neil Hoey's shot from short distance in the 48th minute. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Neil Hoey to strike the kick off in the second half. Crawford Galvin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Belton Palmington in the 55th minute of play. Brice Fraser hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. Barnabas Boston showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Neil Hoey, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. After 65 minutes of play, Wapengo's Benny Gilding made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Barnabas Boston was left in no man's land by his defense there! Wantirna's Darryl Hinwood got a good chance for a goal in the 75th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Darryl Hinwood sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Belton Palmington in the 83rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Crawford Galvin prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Barnabas Boston made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Neil Hoey in the 86th minute of play. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 87th minute of the game. One of Wantirna:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Wapengo:s goal. The goalkeeper, Barnabas Boston, was totally fooled by Wapengo's Phillip Boyce, who 89 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Barnabas Boston showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Neil Hoey in the 97th minute of the match. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Wapengo walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
