Millgrove's Rod Groves played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Evan Laycock in the 26th minute of play. When the match clock showed 32 minutes, the score became 1-2 when Bernard Sparrow sped through Millgrove's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Rod Groves. Rod Groves took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bernard Sparrow, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Evan Laycock in the 42nd minute of play forced Millgrove's goalkeeper Rod Groves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Millgrove's Rod Groves played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Evan Laycock in the 45th minute of play. It was beautiful to see Sydney FC's Nelson Hamilton in action when he in the 48th minute dribbled his way through a couple of opponents and the fired away a shot from almost standing still. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The audience was convinced that Evan Laycock's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rod Groves was relentless in the 97th minute of the game. Sydney FC's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
