Ronald Sedgman showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ozzie Ross in the 19th minute of the match. 21 minutes into the game, Baxter Cordrey was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. York's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Fumina the free kick. A collision led to York getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Baxter Cordrey hit a great ball. Brian Bostock took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 28th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Ronald Sedgman. York's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. When Ozzie Ross got free in front of the goal in the 32nd minute he wasn't very focused and chipped the ball just over the goal. Ronald Sedgman was delighted since he was out of position and the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. After having played for 35 minutes, Corder Mogork managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. York's supporters crossed their fingers, but Corder Mogork was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Earl Waller might have been able to make a better finish in the 40th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ronald Sedgman. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Earl Waller ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 42nd minute, Ozzie Ross made a precise shot to the right of Ronald Sedgman. York's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Earl Waller in the 53rd minute of play forced York's goalkeeper Ronald Sedgman to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jamie Norden showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ernest Renney, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. After a defensive mix-up in York's zone, Earl Waller stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ronald Sedgman came out of the goal and Earl Waller tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. York's Ronald Sedgman played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Earl Waller in the 60th minute of play. 62 minutes into the match, Fumina's goal looked a bit too open when Ernest Renney came free, but Jamie Norden reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ozzie Ross could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 67th minute of the match, but Ronald Sedgman made a huge save. After some fancy dribbling in the 73rd minute, Earl Waller managed to get in a good position for a shot. Fumina's supporters rose to their feet, but Earl Waller was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ronald Sedgman breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 75 minutes into the match, Alexander Allan dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Ronald Sedgman, 0-2. York's defense didn't have a chance, in the 78th minute, when Ozzie Ross scored to the left of an out of position Ronald Sedgman, making the score, 0-3. In the 87th minute Earl Waller shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ronald Sedgman saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 90 minutes into the match, York's goalkeeper Ronald Sedgman had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ozzie Ross. Jamie Norden made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Corder Mogork in the 94th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Fumina's zone, Ernest Renney stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jamie Norden came out of the goal and Ernest Renney tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
