Brookes Lawson was out of position in the 4 minute of play, and Howie Maciver capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Howie Maciver really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. The audience thought a goal was coming when Phil Dorrell got free with Brookes Lawson in the 8th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 8 minutes into the game, Phil Dorrell recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Brookes Lawson. The Merriton fans' excitement grew in the 15th match minute when Merriton's Phil Dorrell looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Aaron Behla in the 35th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Archie Millar prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Aaron Behla recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Brookes Lawson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Howie Maciver in the 43rd minute of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-0 at half-time.

Edmund Hanslow received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Archie Millar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 89 played minutes, Moonijin's Archie Bailey shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Archie Millar came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Moonijin reached it. Moonijin's Brookes Lawson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Howie Maciver in the 93rd minute of play. In the 95th minute, Aaron Behla got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
