In the 3rd minute, Jason Hayward got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Jason Hayward's late challenge caught a Melbourne Black Cats's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jason Hayward helped the player get up and apologised. If Oliver Staworowski had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Oliver Staworowski succeeded in the game's 22nd minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-1. Melbourne Black Cats's Jason Cridland got a good chance for a goal in the 32nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 34th minute Jason Hayward shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Matthews Fazey saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 37 played minutes Melbourne Black Cats got a freekick which was hit by Russ Everett. After 39 played minutes Burnbank got a freekick which was hit by Jason Hayward. Matthews Fazey made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jason Hayward in the 41st minute of play. After 43 minutes of play, Burnbank's Darren Fitzpatrick made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Matthews Fazey was left in no man's land by his defense there! The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Oliver Staworowski to make the kick off. Matthews Fazey was out of position in the 52 minute of play, and Jason Hayward capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Jason Hayward really showed his touch with that goal: 1-3. Jason Hayward scored 1-4 in the 60th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Matthews Fazey, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When Oliver Staworowski fell near the penalty area in the 64th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Melbourne Black Cats's protests and gave Oliver Staworowski a yellow card for diving instead. In the 72ndth minute of the game Darren Fitzpatrick who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Melbourne Black Cats's Matthews Fazey was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 74 minutes, Jason Hayward made it 1-5 with a short kick to the right side. Melbourne Black Cats's Matthews Fazey tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. When Larkins Crampton fell near the penalty area in the 79th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Melbourne Black Cats's protests and gave Larkins Crampton a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Melbourne Black Cats getting a freekick after 79 minutes play. Larkins Crampton hit a great ball. In the 85th minute, Barnabas Watson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Darren Fitzpatrick in the 86th minute of play forced Melbourne Black Cats's goalkeeper Matthews Fazey to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Berny Forrest during the 90th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Burnbank's Jason Hayward came free and shot a quick shot against goal 91 minutes in the game, fortunately Matthews Fazey had problems saving as it came toward the left post. Jason Hayward recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 93rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Darren Fitzpatrick fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Matthews Fazey having to interfere.
