Rodney Staworowski's late challenge caught a Toombullup's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Rodney Staworowski helped the player get up and apologised. Rodney Staworowski hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. If Olin Laughton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 17th minute the ball was on its way in behind Toombullup's goalkeeper Potter Diehl, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Bernard Surman showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edison Locke, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Olin Laughton got free with Potter Diehl in the 22nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Olin Laughton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Al Blackham to make the kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Toombullup's goal looked a bit too open when Al Blackham came free, but Potter Diehl reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Potter Diehl took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Raymond Thiele, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 56 minutes into the match, Edison Locke had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Bernard Surman. Moorabbin's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Edison Locke was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. In the 66th minute Toombullup were awarded a corner. Ralph Roach went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led Toombullup's Darryl Missen to fire away a dangerous shot which Bernard Surman despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. If Bryanne Marcola had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Toombullup played a much better game than Moorabbin and deserved their victory. The Moorabbin players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
