Brand Howard's late challenge caught a Kooroongarra's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Brand Howard helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Japoonvale's Brand Howard got a free kick in the 10th minute. During the 20th minute of the match Brand Howard completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Brand Howard a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Brand Howard hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. Bern Baptiste fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bjorn Triplett having to interfere. The supporters of Japoonvale booed when Kooroongarra was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Clifford Laing didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lucas Grigson kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. Jesse Rennie stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Bock Batterham's shot from short distance in the 28th minute. In the 47th match minute, Kooroongarra was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bob Hayward to maneuver through the defense. In the 49th minute, Bern Baptiste hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Bock Batterham to make the kick off. After 78 played minutes, Kooroongarra's Nero Ross shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Jesse Rennie came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Kooroongarra reached it. In the 79th minute, Bern Baptiste got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 80th minute, Clark Rafferty ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Bjorn Triplett was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. In the 84th minute, Kooroongarra's Bock Batterham ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Jesse Rennie. Jesse Rennie yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-1. Bern Baptiste received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Bjorn Triplett tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Japoonvale's Clark Rafferty got a good chance for a goal in the 91st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 95 minutes of play Kooroongarra's Bob Hayward was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. In the 96th minute, Bob Hayward hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Bern Baptiste sent away a hard shot on goal in the 98th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
