An unexpectedly hard shot by Michael Rishton in the 13th minute of play forced Kooroongarra's goalkeeper Bjorn Triplett to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 17th minute Adam Loch shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bjorn Triplett saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Bock Batterham received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Barney Muller tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Michael Rishton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 33 minutes into the game, Adolph Slattery was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Grove's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Kooroongarra the free kick. The supporters of Kooroongarra booed when Grove was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Adolph Slattery didn't get a good kick on the ball. A hard shot by Pierre Ross from long distance, 38 minutes into the match, got Barney Muller's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Adam Loch fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bjorn Triplett having to interfere. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 43rd minute of the game. One of Kooroongarra:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Grove:s goal.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Bock Batterham stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Michael Rishton in the 53rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Bjorn Triplett saved Kooroongarra from getting behind. In the 55thth minute of the game Michael Rishton who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Kooroongarra's Bjorn Triplett was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The supporters of Grove booed when Kooroongarra was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Case Lewry didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 59th match minute, Grove was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rolando Jobson to maneuver through the defense. 62 minutes into the match, Grove's goal looked a bit too open when Bock Batterham came free, but Barney Muller reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 64th minute, Bock Batterham left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Kooroongarra fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Bjorn Triplett made an important save on a dangerous shot by Adam Loch in the 71st minute. Michael Rishton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In a very dangerous position, a player in Kooroongarra fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 74th minute. Penalty! Andrews Blagburn shot the penalty kick right outside the post. Keefe Letsch hit a great ball. 92 minutes into the match, Grove's Adolph Slattery sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Bjorn Triplett narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 93rdth minute of the game Andres Lowes who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Grove's Barney Muller was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Laurence Mewburn charged in rather forcefully in the 95th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Laurence Mewburn the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 95 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Grove! For all the effort they put into the match, the Grove players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Kooroongarra.
